Day 9 - Down to Pomabamba

15 Jul 2007

Today we descended to the town of Pomabamba where we bought up food supplies for the remainder of the trek. For accommodation in the town we asked a bystander for advice on where to stay. As it turned out, she was headmistress of the local primary school, and there was a room in the school available for us to stay in. So we had a wonderful stay in this very friendly and hospitable town, and for our first hot shower in 9 days we went to the local hot springs, where the hot water for the shower comes from natural springs.

Our first view of the town of Pomabamba raised our hopes that we would easily find accommodation and supplies for the remainder of our trek.

Incredibly, almost every street in the town was like this, completely dug up with trenches, pits, machinery and workers everywhere.

We spent a fascinating afternoon shopping and exploring this friendly town.
