Day 12 - Climb Punta Union and thence to Taullipampa

Today the weather wasn't good but we had an excellent day of high trekking. We climbed the Punta Union (4760m) and we also decided to do a side trip exploring along a high ridge. On the side trip we reached an altitude of about 4900m and enjoyed some exciting rock scrambling with excellent views. Our camp site was at Taullipampa, near the top of the Santa Cruz valley.

		This is the view from the top of the Punta Union pass. In the foreground is Laguna Piramide. The pass in the background is the Alto de Pucaraju, which we had climbed the previous day.
		Looking ahead from the Punta Union pass we see into the top of the Santa Cruz valley. The pointy peak on the right is Sentillo, which we will climb tomorrow.
