Day 3 - Lake Cullicocha (4630m)

9 Jul 2007

Today we walked right up to the head of the Yuraccocha valley where there was a very elusive lake. When we finally got to it, it was somewhat bleak. The water was a cloudy blue colour, complementing the sky which was cloudy grey. The weather improved as we followed the track back and around to Lake Cullicocha, and we picked a great camp site above this lake, from which mirror like reflections and a firey sunset were seen.

		This is the track leading up to our camp site at Lake Cullicocha. The lake is up ahead, just beyond the rocky saddle that you see in the top left of the photo.
		Here is our tent site, nestled in amongst the rocks at Lake Cullicocha.
		To the west the sun was setting over the Cordillera Negra.
		As the sun went down it became still and these beautiful reflections were seen in a still arm of Lake Cullicocha.
