Day 11 - Alto de Pucaraju Pass (4640m)

17 Jul 2007

Today was a fantastic day of diverse scenery. We walked through some rural country where we witnessed a traditional wheat harvest in progress. The local farmers were cutting the wheat with their scythes, and accompanying them were musicians playing drums and flutes. We then climbed a spectacular pass, and camped in a valley full of lakes and surrounded by peaks.

In the morning we descended into this rural valley and began heading upstream.

As we wandered along the trail we witness a harvest in progress. This field of wheat is being harvested to the accompaniment of musicians playing flutes and drums. It was an incredible experience to witness this.

This is a typical farming hamlet in this valley.

We then climbed up the spectacular Alto de Pucaraju pass (4640m) from where this view of Taulliraju was had.

Kendy can be seen in this photo as she climbs the pass. She is the tiny dot on the right hand side of the ridge near the centre of the photo.
