Day 9 - Cerro San Antonio and Laguna Jurau

29 Jun 2007

Today we climbed up the side of the valley to a pass through the Cerro Antonio. The altitude of this pass was about 5000m and it led into the Sarapococha valley. This valley is famous for the mountaineering misadventures of a British mountaineering expedition to Siula Grande that became the subject of the book and film "Touching the Void". We would spend 2 nights camped below Laguna Jurau, and this is the day of our arrival at that lake.

Here is our first views of the turquoise Laguna Jurau, seen from the top of the pass through Cerro Antonia. Siula Grande is the highest peak, clearly seen on this perfect day.

Our route follows the track through the scree that can be seen in this photo.

Together we trek down towards Laguna Jurau.
