Day 4 - Laguna Mitococha to Carhuacocha

24 Jun 2007

Today we trekked to Carhuacocha, a beautiful lake where we would camp for 2 nights. Getting there involved crossing a pass called Yanapunta Pass (4640m). This was a gentler pass than yesterday, with expansive mountain views and beautiful weather.

Early in the morning at Laguna Mitococha, fantastic views across the lake towards the glaciated peaks of Mituraju and Jirishanca.

Our donkeys catch up to us as we cross the gentle and expansive Yanapunta at 4640m.

We descend open grassy vales until suddenly the vista of Laguna Carhuacocha opens out before us. We have lunch here admiring this fantastic view.

Kendy poses for the camera at our lunch spot overlooking Laguna Carhuacocha.

Beautiful reflections from near our campsite at Laguna Carhuacocha.

The altitude of this lake and campsite is 4138m.

In the afternoon, stormy clouds envelop the peaks that surround the lake.
