This stage of the expedition involved establishing our base camp about 2 hours walk inland from where our boat was anchored. We had some bad weather and hence we spent some time on the boat and at the base camp, as well as doing a day trip up a nearby valley.

About 20 minutes walk upstream from base camp is a beaver dam. These destructive introduced animals fell trees and inundate large areas. |
|
The beavers have almost finished chopping down this tree. You can see the muddy channel they have created. They are very destructive. |

A day trip to a glacial lake in bad weather. Our boat at Caleta Olla can be seen. The trees in the foreground are dead due to beaver damage. |
|
After some scrub bashing we reach this glacial lake. |
