This photo shows most of our route above Advance Base Camp (ABC).

The route climbs to the snout of the glacier, then ascends a steep ice gully on its right. After reaching the top of the ice gully we traverse the glacier, thereby outflanking a serac and steep section of ridge. We then switch back and climb the upper glacier to reach a level area where Camp 1 can be sited.

Camp 1 at 5500m is below the ridge which leads to the upper mountain. We climbed steep loose rock to gain the ridge and then progressed up the ridge as far as possible. We turned back due to the danger of the huge serac at the top of the ridge.

Just above ABC is an icy slope which we climb to reach the snout of the glacier, and then we climb the icy gully on the right of the glacier.
