Above Base Camp we followed this morraine ridge up towards Advance Base Camp ABC (4976m). On the right is the Meru glacier and at the head of the valley Meru Peak presides over everything. Ahead of us in the photo lies ABC, among the snow and rubble below one of the ridges leading to Shivling. These photos are of ABC and the route to it from Base Camp.

This strange plant grows at the limit of altitude for growing things. Above here there is nothing but ice and rock.
Working our way through the boulder strewn landscape below ABC. It takes about 4 hours to climb from Base Camp to ABC.
This photo, taken from below ABC, shows our route up the mountain. We climbed onto the glacier whose snout you see on the centre right of this photo. Above that is a ridge, and then the serac wall higher still. The serac wall could not be breached and was too dangerous to approach.
Looking down at Simon and Sonam from a nearby ridge. ABC is below this photo.
