Days 4-5 - Waiting for Fine Weather, Colin Todd Hut

25-26 Feb 2007

We woke at midnight on 25th Feb and stepped outside to check on the weather. A damp north westerly wind was blowing, and the hut was enveloped in heavy cloud. It was starting to rain. There would be no summit bid today. So we went back to bed. That day was spent in the hut, entertaining ourselves with mock crevasse rescues and rope technique competitions in the hut. All the other occupants of the hut braved the bad weather to return to the safety of the valley below. Rob braved his sleeping bag and the pages of his book.

On the 26th, the weather was better but still not good enough for a summit attempt. So another day in the hut was in store. The weather was good enough to venture out for a morning walk up the Bonar Glacier. In the afternoon, Chris and I did some crevasse rescue practise out on the snow near the hut.

This is what the inside of Colin Todd Hut looks like. It was our home for 2 days and 3 nights while we waited for good enough weather to make our summit attempt.
