From time to time, normally in the months of March to May, I take small groups on a 2-day weekend educational bushwalk focused on teaching the skills of navigation. I either lead these trips for private groups or alternatively as club trips with the Sydney University Bushwalkers. For more information on these weekends and how to join, click the button below.

Here are some photos from the May 2018 SUBW navigation weekend and you can also read the trip report.

Studying the map.

Our first map reading stop.

The students get serious about map reading here.
Fortunately the day was calm so maps could be spread out like this.

A great spot for lunch and for map and compass work.

Map reading.

Pagoda country.
Setting a bearing.
Not far from the campsite.
Then, if our day's navigation is successful we reach this amazing swampy crater.
And watch the sun set.
Some just can't get away from their mobile phones.

Gooches Crater.
