It was another beautiful morning at base camp and I had a good night's sleep at last. In the morning I packed my gear ready for the attempt on Khan Tengri. After lunch we set off for Camp 1 on Khan Tengri. The route crossed the glacier and then began climbing Chapaev Peak. I climbed alone on this easy route and the scenery was superb. my guides had gone ahead. I reached Camp 1 at about 6:45pm and crammed into a tiny 2 person tent with both my guides! Very cramped!

After a hearty lunch and with our packs loaded up with fresh food we begin our climb of Khan Tengri. Here we are crossing the glacier, and our destination is Camp 1 as shown.

It was a very enjoyable climb to Camp 1, and it was possible to climb alone following a well trodden route. My guides went on ahead. This contrasted with our previous epic, during which we had to keep together and find our own route through untracked snow.

From Camp 1 there is a superb view of the North Inylcheck glacier stretching far into the distance.
Here is Camp 1. The 3 of us had to cram into the red tent on the left. A Czech family occupied the other tent and these were the only other climbers on the mountain. They made it as far as Camp 2 and then turned back.
