Stage 2 - Slovenj Gradec to Solčava and Robanot Kot

23 - 26 Jun 2010

This stage is through primarily forest and rural landscape presenting no real difficulties. Only the ascent of Raduha on the last day takes this stage into alpine country above 2000m. Even so, this stage is very hilly with some long days. For us at the very start of our trek this was a good warm up for things to come. By the time we reached Solčava on the middle of the 4th day we were ready to enjoy an afternoon off. We stayed in a farmhouse called Pečovnik at the base of the Robanov valley, a few kilometres south of Solčava and at the beginning of Stage 3. Here are some photos of this section.

From Maribor it was a 2 hour bus ride to Slovenj Gradec where we began our trek.

Our first night's accommondation, in Poštarski dom pod Plešivcem (805m).

Forest walking between Andrejev dom and Dom na Smrekovcu where we spent our second night.
After a long day of forest walking we reached Dom na Smrekovcu. This had some interesting wooden sculptures and a water feature in front of the hut.

On the third night we stayed here, in Koča na Loki, located below the peak of Raduha which we would climb the next day.
A black salamander. These little creatures come out briefly after rain.
At the end of Stage 2 we reached the village of Solčava and a few kilometres to the south was the Robanov valley where Stage 3 starts. We spent the night here, in a delightful farmhouse called Pečovnik. Here we are enjoying a cup of tea outside.
